A Glimpse at All Our Programs, Events & Fundraisers

  • We are proud of all we accomplished in the year 2022-2023. Here is a list of programs we led just last year:

    • Playground Project

    • School Support –funding various instructional programs, supplies, materials, etc.

    • Staff Appreciation & Hospitality - we did so much last year, we have a whole page here!

    • Six General PTA meetings with Fun Family Events - last year included a Glow Party, Veteran’s Day program, Movie Night, Wellness Night, and Multicultural Night.

    • Taste-It Program - in 2022-2023, we organized seven Taste-It events over the year, where students were able to taste a local fruit or vegetable, learn about their nutritional qualities and gain exposure to foods they might not have tried before. Over the year we tasted watermelons and cantaloupes, cucumbers, apples, carrots and radishes, sweet potatoes, kale salad and tomatoes.

    • Love Offering - through the PTA’s generosity, Walmart gift cards were provided to seven families to assist with holiday expenses.

    • Adventure Day - on March 19th, 2023, we hosted our first ever Adventure Day, which was an event packed with outdoor fun, showing families what the Roanoke Valley has to offer, and embracing being active and enjoying nature.

    • Red Ribbon Week - the last week of October, students participated in the national campaign, “Celebrate Life. Live Drug Free”, highlighting making healthy choices.

    • The Great Kindness Challenge - this annual event is always a favorite in our school. In January, students in every class decorated brown paper bags to be used by Ronald McDonald House for bagged meals for families on the go.

    • Class Parties - through PTA volunteers, each class participated in two parties for the year (a holiday party in December and an end of year party in May).

    • Parental Educational Opportunities – PTA sponsored an evening of education provided by the Partnership for Community Wellness. The session highlighted Digital Health, and all families were provided free access to an online learning module.

    • Groundskeeping - we hosted two family grounds clean-up days. Volunteers helped with weeding, mulching, raking of leaves, planting, and hardscaping. Our dedicated PTA volunteers provided monthly sweat equity in the upkeep of our grounds as well as seasonal decorating. The projects culminated with the installation of a lavender garden, to be enjoyed by the community for years to come.

    • Fun Run - To everyone’s delight, we brought back our beloved Fun Run! This year, we were so happy to make it happen during the school day, so every student had the opportunity to participate in moving their bodies, and stretching their minds, all while raising funds for CSES! Through the generosity of our families, volunteers, and community partners, we exceeded our fundraising goal.

    • Community Partnership - through the Kroger Community Giving ($5224) and the Amazon Smile Program ($265) (which has been discontinued), the PTA received over 15% of the fundraising income.

    • Holiday Fundraiser - we sold savory and sweet pies from The Pie Lady, lovely CSES keepsake ornaments, and festive poinsettias in time for the holidays!

    • Restaurant Nights - over the course of the year we participated in ten restaurant nights. Local businesses kindly donated a percentage of sales back to PTA.

    • School Supply Kits - we offered the service of ordering school supply kits for a new school year through 1st Day School Supplies. Our volunteer ensures all kits are delivered to the correct classes.

    • Spirit Gear Sales - We offered a unique portfolio of spirit gear for our community to partake in; apparel, water bottles and magnets were sold.

    • Spring Flower Sale - Turkey Hill Nursery partnered with us this year to provide a variety of beautiful spring flowers.

    • 5th Grade Concession Sale - 5th grade parents and students staffed the concessions at the PTA movie night, and fundraised for their end of year celebrations.
